The Ontario Government just cancelled vital upgrades to Niagara’s West Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

The community has been waiting years for the new hospital, and has even raised $15 Million together to contribute to the rebuild.¹ It simply can’t wait any longer. West Lincoln’s chief of obstetrics put it bluntly:

“We can’t continue providing the same level of care in an infrastructure that is basically crumbling.”

Instead of the essential $136 Million rebuild that has been in the works for years, Finance Minister Dwight Duncan just revealed that he wants to spend over $1.8 Billion on a completely new mega-hospital in his cabinet minister’s riding, where two other hospitals have already undergone extensive upgrades.³

The Ontario Government needs to know that Niagara residents won’t stand for our hospital’s funding being cut. Only one thing can pressure the Ontario government into restoring the promised funding - if enough of us speak out together right now.

West Lincoln Memorial Hospital is a pride of the region for the quality of care it provides 65,000 Niagara residents. It consistently ranks amongst the best in the province for patient satisfaction, with people coming from across the region - as far away as Fort Erie, Hamilton, St Catharines and beyond.

In their election platform, the Ontario Liberals made a clear commitment: “We will continue to reverse … hospital closures by investing in new hospitals and renovating existing facilities.”⁴

Tell Health Minister Deb Matthews to keep that promise, and restore funding for the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital now. We need to act quickly. Send your message, then forward this to everyone you know in the area to spread the word.
