Tips and Information

The best way to encourage others to vote is to share your story - tell them why you’re voting.

Then be ready to answer these questions:

It's easier than you think. Here's what you need to know about voting this election.

Find your poll:

  • Search your Postal Code on the VoteSocial website
  • Visit Elections.ca
  • Phone Elections Canada @ 1-800-463-6868

Bring Identification:

  • a driver’s licence with your current address. If address is old, bring current mail from an “institution” (schools, utilities, banks etc., but NOT the registration card) with your name on it AND photo ID.

  • Or if you don’t have a driver’s licence, bring two pieces of ID with your name on them and a piece of mail from an “institution.” The registration card will not be accepted.

  • Or a friend/roommate/neighbour who lives in the same riding and can vouch for you by verifying your (thank you to Apathy is Dead for updated ID requirements) address. They must have current ID.

Be a part of our democracy.

There are countless reasons to vote:

  • Because you can.
  • Because it’s your civic duty.
  • Because the issues matter.
  • Because the next federal government will make decisions that impact you directly: post-secondary education, healthcare, and the environment.
  • Because people around the world are dying for the opportunity to be able to vote.
  • Because your vote matters.
None of the parties appeal to me. Why should I care?

Fair Enough.

Vote for issues instead. Check out party platforms using the Vote Compass, or check out how parties are responding to the issues that Canadians care about using Leadnow’s Party Positions.

Get informed and vote for the party that best addresses the issues that matter to you.

Where can I find out more about the parties and their leaders?

Without a doubt, it will.

Yes, this election is going to be close. In some places it will come down to just a few votes. In other places, your vote will help fund the party you support.

Join a community of people who are coming together to speak with one strong voice. Check out Leadnow’s Declaration for Change - an open letter to the next Parliament calling for political cooperation to make progress on some key challenges our society faces today.

It’s okay! None of us have PhDs in Canadian politics.
