I am calling on you to commit to reversing the expansion of private for-profit healthcare clinics in Ontario and address surgery wait times by investing in public solutions.

A recent report in the Canadian Medical Association Journal by Queen's University professor Robert Cambpell, has shed light on the consequences of this expansion in Ontario with regards to cataract surgeries. This report confirms the greatest fears – low income Ontarians are being least served by the turn to for-profit clinics.

The disparities in who is accessing surgeries is unacceptable. Furthermore, private for-profit healthcare clinics have been found to be up-charging patients and charging the public healthcare system more to perform the same surgeries as a hospital would – a waste of taxpayer dollars.

As we likely will enter in an election in the next year, I urge you to commit to reversing the expansion of private healthcare clinics and this issue is top of mind for me as a voter. I look forward to hearing your response.
