It’s the dead of winter, and 100 wildfires are still burning in Canada.

It’s a scary number – and here’s another one. In 2023, Big Oil lobbyists met with some politicians 1,173 times. That amounts to 4.5 times a day.

Wildfires and lobby meetings might seem disconnected – but in fact, the rise in extreme wildfires has been directly linked to emissions from the fossil fuel industry. And while the rest of us are bracing for a future in which the concept of a wildfire “season” is obsolete, Big Oil is making plans to ramp up production even more in 2024.
