Next Monday, your MP will have the opportunity to vote on an NDP motion in support of Palestine. If passed, the motion would stop the sale of Canadian arms to the Israeli military, recognize Palestinian statehood, and help bring an end to the Israeli government’s assault on civilian life.

This Monday will be the first opportunity for MPs to vote on Gaza as individuals – rather than toeing the party line. And if we can flood them with thousands of emails calling on them to vote in support of the NDP’s motion, it could be the last nudge they need.

I am urging you to vote in support of the NDP motion on March 18th regarding Canada’s approach to Israel’s war on Gaza, including support for an arms embargo on Israel and the recognition of Palestine’s statehood.

The motion is extremely important as it provides recommendations to the government for how to respond to Israel’s  assault against the Palestinian people, and the immense humanitarian crisis it has caused. This is your first chance to take a stand in the House of Commons in favour of Palestinian human rights, and I urge you to be on the right side of history.

Israel’s flagrant disregard for international law and the ICJ’s ruling should be more than enough to compel Canada to take immediate action to protect Palestinian human rights. As the investigation continues, Canada risks being an accomplice to genocide should we not immediately end arms sales to Israel. Supporting the NDP’s motion can begin to undo some of the missteps made by this government – including your earlier decision to defund UNRWA.

Your constituents want you to vote yes for the Opposition Day motion. This is a crucial step towards protecting Palestinian human rights, and we’re looking to you to do the right thing.
