The situation in Israel and Palestine is evolving with each passing day – but what we know right now is this: even as Israelis mourn their loved ones and pray for the return of hostages in the wake of Hamas’s brutal attack, the state of Israel is launching an unprecedented and catastrophic assault on civilians in Gaza.¹

Since October 7, the Israeli military government has cut off electricity, food, water and fuel to the 2.3 million people living in Gaza.² As of today, the death toll has risen to 16,000. 40% of those killed are children.³ These are war crimes.

With the situation in Gaza growing more desperate by the hour, the international community must act quickly to hold Israel to account and protect civilian lives. Will you send a letter to your MP calling on them to keep fighting for a ceasefire?

I am writing to express my deep sadness regarding the many civilian lives lost and the ongoing suffering in the face of escalating violence in Israel and Palestine over the past two weeks, and to thank you as my MP for taking a stand in calling for a ceasefire.

I grieve the horrific attack and killing of Israeli civilians by Hamas, and the ongoing Israeli military siege and killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza.?The recent forced displacement of Palestinians in Gaza, coupled with threats of violence towards Jewish and Muslim communities worldwide, has reached a crisis point that requires urgent intervention.

As my MP, I implore you to continue to push the Canadian government to call for immediate and permanent ceasefire to prevent any further loss of life of innocent lives. It must oppose Israel’s illegal restriction of water, electricity, food and medicine to Gazans, and demand a humanitarian corridor into Gaza, and insist that Israel uphold human rights and international law. I urge you to employ all efforts to ensure the safe release and return of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, and jailed Palestinians who have been illegally detained in Israel.

Finally, Canada must also lend its support in finding a peaceful resolution to this decades-long conflict.
