This is outrageous. In a massive power grab, Premier Ford is invoking the notwithstanding clause — overriding the Charter of Rights and Freedoms — to pass an election law the Supreme Court struck down earlier this week.1
He's called MPPs back to Queen's Park today, to vote on new legislation that would make it harder for civil society groups to participate in politics — while doubling the amount wealthy donors can contribute to political parties.2
Cabinet ministers have the power to pressure Ford and convince him to back down but they aren’t going to do it unless they feel like there’s a massive public outcry against Ford’s undemocratic tactics. They could vote on the bill as early as today so we have to act fast.
Send a message to cabinet ministers now, calling on them to stop Doug Ford's assault on our democracy.
